Creative Kernow, based at Krowji, is the umbrella organisation for the following nine projects. Together we support the production, promotion and distribution of work by creative practitioners in Cornwall because we believe in creativity's transformative power and want more people to benefit from it.

About Cornwall Music Network

CMN is a not-for-profit music organisation – part of the Creative Kernow charity.

We have a simple aim:

To inspire, support, connect & promote music in Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly.

How we will work to achieve this aim:

– Provide support and advice in all aspects of the music industry to individuals in Cornwall and the Isles  of Scilly

– Host events throughout the county where all those who work within the sector can come together for networking and dialogue purposes

– Promote and encourage skills development in the sector

– Provide confident and dynamic leadership for the sector advocate on its behalf

– Encourage economic development within the music industry throughout the region

– Run seminars, surgeries and mentoring schemes in response to sector needs

– Establish links with other music development organisations and music industry bodies regionally, nationally and internationally.

– Advise and encourage individuals on attending national and international music conferences and events

– Encourage, promote and assist in the export of music from Cornwall

– Develop an infrastructure for music in Cornwall and the taking of that music to national and international audiences

– Encourage greater inward investment into the music industry in Cornwall

Who we are

Phil Webb, an experienced arts administrator and music promoter,  is project manager of the network, a part-time post, which is part of Creative Kernow. He is supported by an Advisory Group made up of musicians from different sectors, music businesses, music educators and music organisations.

How we are funded

In 2009 we were awarded a grant from the Arts Council, this enabled us to design and develop this website, appoint a project manager and run a series of events. We were grateful for funding support from the PRS for Music Foundation in 2011.

In 2012 Cornwall Music Forum won an Arts Council grant to continue our work in a project call Progressive Routes 2013-2015.

We had support from partners Falmouth University and DBS Music Cornwall and developed a programme of events and activities aiming to support music development in Cornwall.

These included workshops, seminars, showcases, mentoring, digital releases, summer schools, samplers, skill sharing, platforms, film music, advice panels, band exchanges, sector specific business advice, education and community opportunities, venue support, music information, contacts and networks + much more.

In 2015 CMF worked with ACT, Carn to Cove  on a European cross-channel project – Beats Per Minute. We linked up with Collective Tomahawk in Brittany to develop links between Cornwall & Brittany and we delivered music conferences in Camborne and Rennes, an exchange of bands – French jazz/funk band Undergroove performed three excellent gigs in Penzance, Penryn and Calstock & Cornwall’s leading rock/punk band Honey played three great gigs in Rennes in June. We also worked on an innovative interactive database of music venues db tribe across northern France and southern UK which will be launched in 2016. We are grateful for Interreg European funding which has helped us develop our website and build strong links with music organisations in Brittany.
