Jack Lawrence, friend and partner of the legendary Doc Watson, returns from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Cornwall for a St Ives September Festival out-of-town event at Zennor Village Hall on Thursday night (Sept 14).
Lawrence has been called a “flatpicking powerhouse” and his career, which spans several decades, and began professionally in the early 1970s when he was a member of several pioneer bands of modern bluegrass, including The New Deal String Band and The Bluegrass Alliance.
Well known as Doc Watson’s partner from the early 1980s until Doc’s death in 2012, Jack’s inspired playing and smooth vocals musical traditions.
He will be joining his friends Richard Plank and Alan Ward for an evening of songs and instrumentals from the American tradition.
